Pantar ficiitis. I’d never heard of that condition but when I look into it this on Google it seems as common as muck. I’ve been suffering from pain in the heel of my right foot for months and it just won’t go away. Eventually I’ve book an appointment with the doctor to see what if anything can be done. In the meantime I continue the training regime by doing none-impact sports.
Last Thursday I stupidly played football. Having vowed to just play in goal I gave in to temptation and came out which again damaged my heel to the point of not being able to walk the next day. Silly boy.
Saturday saw a quick trip over to the simming baths for a 8.15am start. A mile was dispatched with a bit left over in reserve.
Sunday I did a bike ride of 31 miles consisting of a jaunt along to the far side of Stocksfield, turn right up to North Acomb Farm, over the A69 and up to Vallum Farm on the military road and then back home via Newburn. Other than the big climb in the middle the rest of the ride was pretty easy.
Monday was a day of rest in the name of our lord Recovery.
Tuesday I cycled along to Wallsend baths for a 1 mile swim and then cycled back. This is the first time I’ve felt fatigued as the shoulders and chest were groaning with the effort. It also brought home an annoying fact that seems to be apparent in swimmers. I’ve noticed that life in the fast lane has an edge of competition about it. I swim too fast to be in the slow lane but not at top speed because I’m doing 64 laps. Other swimmers in the fast lane are hell bent on passing me and then making comments like “don’t worry, I’ll just go straight past”. Which they do. But then these same swimmers get to about 30 lengths and stop for ten minutes which means I regain all the lengths and end up ahead of them in laps completed. They then set off like a steam train and repeat the process. Why? If they had set out to do the same number of lengths as me, which seems to be standard, then why don’t they get a pace they can maintain? And it’s not a one off, it’s happened with everyone I’ve shared the fast lane with so far and the funny thing is that when I’m done I’ve done more distance than them in the same time.
What a whinger I am. In general the training is coming along nicely given that the open water swim is 8 days away.
